The Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial and regulatory reporting, while maintaining full compliance with IFRS standards and applicable regulatory requirements. This role oversees the monthly financial close process, ensuring the preparation of accurate financial statements and the effective maintenance of finance master data in line with IFRS and relevant organisational requirements.In addition, the role is responsible for monitoring developments in IFRS and assessing their impact on financial reporting, ensuring the timely and accurate implementation of new or revised accounting standards to maintain compliance, enhance reporting quality, and support sound financial governance.
Job Specific Responsibilities:
Financial ReportingPrepare, review, and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting standards.Manage and ensure adherence to the monthly financial close calendar and reporting deadlines.Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, including IFRS and internal financial policies.Collaborate with wider finance teams to gather, validate, and consolidate financial data to support accurate reporting.Review financial statements subject to specific reporting or regulatory requirements and provide technical commentary where necessary.Prepare audit committee materials, management presentations, and financial analysis for both internal and external stakeholders on a quarterly basis.Support internal and external audit activities by providing required documentation, financial insights, and timely responses to audit requests.Ensure compliance with internal control frameworks, maintain documented financial processes, and assess the effectiveness of risk mitigation controls.Support the implementation of audit recommendations to strengthen financial reporting, controls, and governance.Promote best practice accounting principles and contribute to the continuous improvement of financial reporting processes.
Regulatory ReportingMonitor and assess regulatory developments impacting financial reporting and compliance requirements.Prepare and submit regulatory reports accurately and within required timelines.Review quarterly regulatory submissions and reconciliations to ensure alignment between internal financial reporting and regulatory requirements prior to submission.Liaise with regulatory authorities and respond to information requests, including the preparation of presentations and supporting documentation for annual performance reviews.Work closely with legal and compliance teams to assess the financial implications of regulatory developments and ensure organisational compliance.Maintain an organised repository of regulatory policies, guidelines, and supporting documentation to facilitate audits and inspections.Support the development and enhancement of compliance policies and procedures relating to financial and regulatory reporting.Drive reporting process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and stakeholder satisfaction.
Technical AccountingSupport the development, implementation, and enhancement of accounting policies and financial processes in line with IFRS requirements.Monitor IFRS developments and assess their impact on financial reporting and accounting treatment across the organisation.Conduct external benchmarking and technical accounting analysis to ensure alignment with evolving best practices.Partner with cross-functional finance teams, including accounting, treasury, business performance, and financial planning, to implement new or revised accounting standards.Provide technical accounting guidance and support on complex IFRS-related matters, including the preparation of accounting positions and recommendations.
Standard ResponsibilitiesEnsure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and governance frameworks to maintain a controlled and consistent operating environment.Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems, processes, and practices, incorporating leading practices and adapting to changes in the business environment.Support change management initiatives and contribute to the preparation of timely and accurate reports in line with departmental standards and requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.Professional accounting or finance qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, or an equivalent certification is required.Minimum of 6 years’ experience within Finance, Accounting, or a related function, ideally gained within:A diverse and multicultural business environment, preferably within medium to large-scale organisations.A multinational organisation with complex financial reporting requirements.Strong knowledge and practical experience of IFRS standards, including hands-on experience with IFRS 16.Prior experience within the Energy, Utilities, or Infrastructure sector is preferred.Demonstrated ability to operate within a regulated environment and manage complex financial and regulatory reporting requirements.
